Asphalt - Ganshoren
Asphalt is, since the late 20th century, the interface between the soil and the air. The physic properties of this material offered an easy solution to prevent from epidemies. Though, this universal solution ignores most of its context. It’s waterproof and might cause flooding. But it also means that it can stock water. We had a supermarket roof, which was already full of asphalt, ready to become a lake with minimal adjustment. Asphalt also created cultures, bringing sliding sports into the city, and providing a place for the nomads. This project aims to use asphalt in a specific way, to dialogue with cultures and the city.
